The EVENT28-5 is the DJ and high-impact music version of the eight-top EVENT series configuration — eight DAS Audio EVENT-28A active line array cabinets and four DAS Audio EVENT-218A dual-18" powered subwoofers, four tops and two subs per side. Where the EVENT28-3 uses the EVENT-118A subwoofer optimised for speech clarity and corporate music, the EVENT28-5 steps up to the EVENT-218A — a dual 18" cabinet with 3,600W peak output and long-excursion drivers reaching to 32Hz. The difference in bass weight and physical impact is immediate and significant.

This is the correct package when the event is primarily music, DJ, or any application where the audience expects to feel the bass as much as hear it. Concert productions, large club nights, outdoor parties, high-energy product launches, and events where the dance floor is central to the evening. The four EVENT-28A tops per side provide the same exceptional throw and coverage clarity as the EVENT28-3 — the distinction is entirely in what happens below 100Hz, where the EVENT-218A delivers output and extension that the EVENT-118A cannot match.

The DAScontrol preset is set to 4U, automatically applying the correct EQ, time alignment, and limiting. The EVENT-218A subwoofers handle all crossover duties, feeding the tops a high-pass filtered signal above the crossover point. The system is ground-stacked as standard. AT04B speaker lifting towers are available as an optional add-on when height is needed for outdoor events or larger indoor venues.

No mixer is included. The system accepts any balanced XLR feed from a mixing console. For DJ events the Soundcraft Digital or Allen and Heath SQ5 is a clean pairing. For events with live band inputs, multiple wireless microphones, and monitor requirements, the SQ5 or SQ7 with stagebox is the standard Edwards recommendation.

The four EVENT-28A cabinets per side throw clean audio across a large venue or outdoor area, and the EVENT-218A subwoofers deliver bass output well beyond what the audience size figures alone suggest. The right question is what kind of event and what the audience expects — not just how many people.

Is this suitable for outdoor events?

Yes! Outdoor events are one of the strongest use cases for this package. Line array technology handles outdoor conditions including wind significantly better than conventional speakers at equivalent power levels. The EVENT-218A subwoofers deliver bass that carries effectively outdoors where low frequencies dissipate faster than indoors. For large outdoor standing audiences, AT04B lifting towers are available as an add-on to get the array higher for better throw over the crowd.

Can the system be ground-stacked or does it need to be flown?

The EVENT28-5 is supplied ready for ground-stacking — four tops per side is within the safe limit for the EVENT-28A stacking configuration. It can also be flown on AT04B lifting towers or from venue motor points. All rigging hardware is included in the package. Flying points or motors at the venue need to be confirmed at booking and are not included in the package price.

How heavy are the EVENT-218A subwoofers?

Each EVENT-218A weighs 68.5kg — a two-person minimum lift at all times. A wheel dolly or pallet jack is strongly recommended for positioning. This is an important logistics consideration for self-collection hires — confirm you have adequate crew and equipment handling capability before booking self-collect for this package. Delivery and setup by an Edwards technician removes this concern entirely.

Do I need a mixer?

Yes. No mixer is included. The system accepts any balanced XLR feed from a mixing console. For DJ events the Soundcraft performer or other suitable quality digital mixer, or Allen and Heath SQ5 digital console is a clean and capable pairing. For larger events with live band inputs, multiple wireless microphones, and monitor mixes, the SQ7 with a stagebox is the standard Edwards recommendation. Can I add more system if I need more coverage?

Yes. The EVENT28-6 steps up to twelve tops and four EVENT-218A subs — six tops per side — for larger audiences. The EVENT28-7 adds a third EVENT-218A sub per side for maximum bass output at large concerts and festival productions. Is this the right system for a speech event or ceremony?

Generally no. The EVENT-218A subwoofers are optimised for music impact and bass extension — their output is more than most speech events require, and the additional cost over the EVENT28-3 is not justified for speech-primary applications. For conferences, ceremonies, dawn services, and corporate events where speech clarity and music are both required, the EVENT28-3 with EVENT-118A subwoofers is the more appropriate choice.
