If the music matters, the speakers matter. Edwards Sound has been supplying professional audio equipment to Auckland events since the 1960s — and the same quality we bring to concert productions and corporate events is available for your party, birthday, engagement, or private function.
Our party speaker hire range is built around DAS Audio and Audiocenter professional equipment — not the consumer Bluetooth speakers that most hire companies pass off as party sound. These are the same brands used by touring musicians, installed venues, and production professionals. The difference is immediately audible the moment the first track plays.
Every system in this range is self-contained and straightforward to set up. Connect your phone, laptop, or DJ controller, plug in the power, and you are ready. No external amplifiers, no complicated wiring, no technical knowledge required. For events where you want someone else to handle it entirely, Edwards can deliver and set up the system for you.
The right system depends on three things: how many people, how loud, and what kind of music.
For smaller gatherings of up to 80 people where background music and occasional speeches are the brief, the compact column system is the elegant choice — tall, slim, and surprisingly powerful for its footprint.
For parties of 100 to 300 people where music is the main event, the VANTEC-12A or Avant15A paired with a subwoofer is the standard recommendation — serious output, solid bass, and a system that handles a dance floor without running out of headroom.
For larger private events and parties of 200 to 500 people where the brief is to make it properly loud and the music needs to fill a large indoor or outdoor space, the VANTEC-215A pair delivers high-output full-range sound with bass extension that removes the need for separate subwoofers in most situations.
If you are unsure, contact the hire team. A short conversation about your venue, guest count, and what kind of night you are planning is usually enough to land on the right recommendation.
Hire code: ALTEA20A
The Altea-20A is a complete self-contained 3-way column PA system — a tall slim column speaker sitting on a birch plywood dual-10" subwoofer, all in one unit that assembles in minutes. Two-thousand watts peak power, 127dB peak SPL, and bass extension to 37Hz from a system that looks nothing like a traditional speaker box. The column format provides controlled horizontal dispersion across 100 degrees with tight vertical coverage that keeps sound in the room and off the ceiling, giving it a natural and even sound character that works particularly well in reverberant spaces like marquees, function rooms, and open-plan houses.
Two XLR/TRS combo inputs handle microphones and line sources simultaneously, a 3.5mm AUX input handles phones and laptops, and Bluetooth streaming connects wirelessly without any cable at all. An instrument input accepts a guitar, bass, or keyboard directly. DAScontrol LCD presets optimise the system for different uses. The DASlink GM app allows wireless control from a phone. At 31kg for the complete system it is manageable and sets up in a single location without the footprint of traditional speaker-and-sub configurations.
Suitable for gatherings of up to 150 people indoors, smaller outdoor areas, and any event where the speaker needs to look as good as it sounds.
Hire code: VANTEC12A
The VANTEC-12A is Edwards NZ's preferred general-purpose speaker — 1,500W peak, 135dB SPL, and the most current-looking cabinet in the fleet with its clean ISO-flex painted finish. Bluetooth HD streaming connects a phone wirelessly. DAScontrol LCD interface provides five presets. A pair with a VANTEC-18A subwoofer covers 300 to 500 people comfortably for music events and handles DJ sets, live music, and parties with room to spare. The preferred choice when the system will be visible and appearance matters alongside performance.
Hire code: AVANT15A
The Avant15A is a 1,200W peak 15" speaker with bass extension to 45Hz — deep enough that it carries real low-end weight without a subwoofer for smaller setups, and a physical presence that 12" speakers cannot match at the same volume. Edwards has a large stock of Avant15A units making it a strong choice when multiple speakers are needed. Paired with the VANTEC-18A or Avant118A subwoofer it becomes a high-output party system with the kind of bass impact that makes people stay on the dance floor. Note that at 30kg it requires a two-person lift.
Hire code: VANTEC215A
The VANTEC-215A is the most powerful point-source speaker in the Edwards party hire fleet — two 15" drivers plus a 1" compression driver, 2,250W peak, 138dB SPL, and bass response extending to 40Hz without a subwoofer. A pair covers 300 to 500 people for music events and delivers the kind of output that fills a large house, a marquee, or an outdoor backyard event without needing separate subwoofers in most cases. Floor-standing only — not for speaker stands. When the brief is to make it loud and make it sound exceptional, this is the system.
If you want a complete matched system rather than individual components, Edwards offers pre-configured PA packages that combine speakers, subwoofers, and a mixer in a single hire. Browse the VANTEC6K, VANTEC6K2, VANTEC12M, and VANTEC1218 packages for matched speaker and sub combinations with a mixer included — everything in one hire, pre-tested and ready to connect.
All party speaker hire is available for self-collection with clear setup instructions included. If you would rather have Edwards handle the setup, delivery and installation by one of our technicians is available — the system arrives connected, tested, and ready to play, and is collected after the event. Either way the equipment is the same professional gear.
It depends on the system and the space. The Altea-20A column system suits gatherings up to around 150 people indoors. A pair of VANTEC-12A speakers with a subwoofer covers 300 to 500 people. The VANTEC-215A pair handles similar numbers with more bass output and no separate sub required. These are guidelines rather than hard limits — a reverberant indoor space with hard walls and low ceilings will sound louder at the same volume than an open outdoor site. Contact us with your venue and guest count and we will recommend accordingly.
If the party is music-led and a dance floor is part of the plan, yes. A subwoofer adds the bass weight that makes music physical — you feel it as well as hear it. The VANTEC-215A and Avant15A have enough low-end extension that smaller setups can get away without a dedicated sub, but for a proper dance floor a subwoofer makes a meaningful difference. The VANTEC-12A always benefits from a sub for music events. If the party is primarily background music and conversation, a sub is optional.
Yes. Every system in this range accepts a phone, tablet, or laptop via Bluetooth or 3.5mm AUX input without a mixer. The Altea-20A also has two XLR/TRS inputs that handle microphones and line sources directly. For events with a DJ controller, microphone, and music source running simultaneously, a small mixer is recommended to blend everything cleanly — Edwards can supply one alongside the speaker hire.
Every self-collect hire comes with clear setup instructions specific to the system you have hired. The short version for most systems: connect the subwoofer to your source, connect the tops to the subwoofer via the HPF loop-through output, connect power, and play. The Altea-20A is even simpler — it assembles in a few minutes and connects directly to any source. If anything is unclear the hire team is available by phone during your event.
Yes. All systems in this range are used outdoors regularly for backyard parties, garden events, and outdoor functions. The main considerations are protection from direct rain and correct placement — speakers on stands or raised surfaces project further and more evenly than speakers at ground level. The VANTEC-215A is floor-standing only, so it works best outdoors when elevated on a solid platform or stage riser. Contact us for placement guidance specific to your outdoor site.
Yes. Single-night and weekend hire is standard. Longer hire periods are available if needed — confirm when booking.
Microphones can be added to any party speaker hire. Wireless handheld, lapel, and headset microphones are all available. If speeches, toasts, or a MC are part of the evening, let us know when booking and we will include the right microphone option.
