Hire DAS Audio EVENT Line Array with12 Tops + 6 EVENT-218A Subwoofers
Large Concert and Festival Package
The EVENT28-7 is one of Edwards' large concert line array configuration with twelve DAS Audio EVENT-28A active mid-high cabinets and six EVENT-218A dual-18" powered subwoofers, six tops and three subs per side. This is the package for large outdoor concerts, major DJ productions, festivals, and any event where maximum output, deep bass extension, and professional line array coverage across a large audience area are all required simultaneously.
Three EVENT-218A subwoofers per side is what separates the EVENT28-7 from the EVENT28-6. Both packages have six tops per side delivering identical coverage and throw distance — the distinction is entirely in the sub count and the bass output that comes with it. The EVENT-218A is a dual long-excursion 18" powered subwoofer with 3,600W peak output reaching to 32Hz. Two per side in the EVENT28-6 delivers strong bass for corporate events with music. Three per side in the EVENT28-7 delivers the physical bass impact and low-frequency extension that a large outdoor concert or high-energy DJ production demands from the audience's first step onto the site.
Six EVENT-28A tops per side is the maximum safe ground-stack height for the EVENT series so this configuration is at that limit and is typically deployed on AT04B speaker lifting towers or hung from truss or venue motor points rather than ground-stacked. Getting the array to height is what allows six tops per side to project their full throw potential across a large standing audience. Flying hardware is included in the package. AT04B lifting towers are available separately as hire code LIFTINGT — flying points and motors at the venue must be confirmed and arranged at booking.
The DAScontrol DSP system automatically applying the correct EQ, time alignment, phase correction, and limiting for this array configuration. Signal flows from the mixing console into the EVENT-218A subwoofers, which feed a high-pass filtered signal to the bottom EVENT-28A top in each array via the HPF loop-through output. The tops daisy-chain upward from there. Three subs per side are daisy-chained together before the HPF loop-through feeds the bottom top — the HPF switch on the final sub in each chain must be confirmed in HPF position before powering on.
No mixer is included. For productions at this scale the Allen and Heath SQ7 with AR2412 or GX4816 stagebox is the standard Edwards recommendation — the GX4816 configuration is the right choice when the event requires 96kHz recording for broadcast or the input count demands it.
What is included:
- 12x DAS Audio EVENT-28A active line array cabinets
- 6x DAS Audio EVENT-218A dual 18" powered subwoofers
- Full flying rigging hardware (not motors or towers)
- All power and audio cables
Coverage guide: Music and DJ events — 2,000 to 4,000 people. These are starting points rather than hard limits — actual coverage in good outdoor conditions frequently exceeds these figures. For speech-primary events at large scale, the EVENT28-4 or EVENT28-6 are more appropriately specified choices.
Ideal for: Large outdoor concerts and music festivals, major DJ events and large club productions, large public events with significant music requirements, outdoor performances where maximum bass impact and full line array coverage across a large crowd are both required.
AT04B lifting towers required — available separately as LIFTINGT. Mixer not included — hire separately or bring your own. Available for delivery and setup by an Edwards technician.
Frequently Asked Questions — EVENT28-7 Line Array Hire
What is the difference between the EVENT28-7 and the EVENT28-6?
Both packages have twelve EVENT-28A tops — six per side — delivering identical coverage, throw distance, and vertical dispersion control. The difference is entirely in the subwoofers. The EVENT28-6 has four EVENT-218A subs — two per side — suited to large corporate events where music quality alongside speech is important. The EVENT28-7 has six EVENT-218A subs — three per side — delivering 50% more subwoofer output for large concerts, outdoor festivals, and high-energy DJ productions where physical bass impact and low-frequency extension across a large crowd are the priority. If the event is primarily music and the audience expects to feel the bass throughout the site, the EVENT28-7 is the right choice over the EVENT28-6.
Does this system need to be flown?
Six tops per side is the maximum safe ground-stack height for the EVENT-28A. In most deployments this configuration is flown on AT04B lifting towers or from venue motor points — ground-stacking at this height is technically within the limit but flying is strongly preferred for most outdoor productions where getting the array higher significantly improves throw and coverage consistency across a large standing audience. AT04B towers are available separately at hire code LIFTINGT. If the venue has motor points these can be used instead — confirm availability and capacity at booking. Flying hardware is included in the package price.
How heavy are the EVENT-218A subwoofers?
Each EVENT-218A weighs 68.5kg — a two-person minimum lift at all times, and a wheel dolly or pallet jack is strongly recommended for positioning. With six units in this package the logistics of moving and positioning the subs is a meaningful part of the setup plan. Delivery and setup by an Edwards technician is strongly recommended for this package — confirm crew and equipment handling capability before booking self-collect.
What mixer should I hire with this package?
For productions at this scale Edwards recommends the Allen and Heath SQ7. For events with live band inputs, complex monitor requirements, and high channel counts, the SQ7 with GX4816 stagebox is the standard recommendation — 80 physical inputs, dLive-grade preamps, and 96kHz end-to-end audio for broadcast and recording. For events without broadcast requirements the SQ7 with AR2412 provides 56 inputs in a slightly simpler configuration. Contact our hire team when booking and we can quote the right console alongside the package.
What DAScontrol preset should be set?
6U — matched to six tops per side. This must be confirmed on every EVENT-28A top before the system is powered up for soundcheck. Setting DAScontrol to the wrong preset applies incorrect EQ, time alignment, and limiting for the array size and will result in audibly incorrect system performance. This is the single most important setup step for the EVENT series and it is checked as part of every Edwards deployment.
Can this system cover a speech event?
Technically yes, but it is not the recommended choice for speech-primary events. The EVENT-218A subwoofers are optimised for music impact and bass extension — their output is significantly more than most speech events require and the cost over a more appropriately specified package is not justified. For large outdoor speech events, ceremonies, and dawn services where a twelve-top configuration is needed, the EVENT28-4 tops-only package or the EVENT28-6 with four EVENT-218A subs are more appropriate choices.
Is experienced crew required for this package?
Yes. The EVENT28-7 is a major production system requiring experienced crew for deployment, rigging, and operation. The weight of the EVENT-218A subwoofers, the flying requirements for the tops, and the DAScontrol setup all require operators who are familiar with line array systems at this scale. Edwards strongly recommends delivery and professional setup by our technicians for this package — contact our hire team to discuss production crew requirements alongside the equipment hire.
Is delivery and setup available?
Yes, and for this package it is strongly recommended if not mandatory. The EVENT28-7 is available for delivery and professional setup by an Edwards production team. Contact our hire team at (09) 571 0551 or hire@edwardsnz.co.nz to discuss your event, site requirements, flying point availability, and crew needs well in advance of the event date.
