Hire DAS Audio EVENT Line Array with 4 Tops + 2 Subwoofers EVENT28-2
Standard Mid-Size Line Array Package
The EVENT28-2 is the most commonly hired EVENT series package at Edwards NZ and the standard choice for professional mid-to-large events. Four DAS Audio EVENT-28A active line array cabinets and two EVENT-118A powered 18" subwoofers — two tops and one sub per side — deliver the coverage consistency, throw distance, and audio clarity that conventional point-source speakers cannot match at this audience size.
Line array technology works fundamentally differently from a conventional speaker on a stand. The two EVENT-28A cabinets stacked per side form a controlled vertical beam that throws clean, intelligible audio to the back of a large room or across a wide outdoor area without the volume dropping off the way it does with a point-source speaker. The front of the room and the back of the room receive consistent, natural-sounding audio — not loud at the front and struggling at the back. This is what makes the EVENT series the right choice for conferences, large dinners, and outdoor events where every seat in the house matters.
The EVENT-28A's onboard DAScontrol DSP is set to 2U — matched to the two tops per side — automatically applying the correct EQ, time alignment, phase correction, and limiting for this specific array configuration. FIR filtering maintains constant phase response across the crossover region, giving the system exceptional clarity and transparency at any volume level. The EVENT-118A subwoofer handles all crossover duties, feeding the tops a high-pass filtered signal via its loop-through output so the array receives only the frequencies it is designed to reproduce.
The tops can be pole-mounted on the EVENT-118A subwoofer for a clean, professional appearance — sub at floor level with the array projecting from height — or stacked directly on the sub where stage height provides adequate elevation. AT04B speaker lifting towers are available as an optional add-on when additional height is needed for large outdoor events or flown configurations.
No mixer is included. The system accepts any balanced XLR feed from a mixing console. Edwards can supply an Allen and Heath SQ5 or SQ7 digital console alongside this package for events requiring full input management, wireless microphones, and effects.
What is included:
- 4x DAS Audio EVENT-28A active line array cabinets
- 2x DAS Audio EVENT-118A powered 18" subwoofers
- Pole mount and stacking hardware

Coverage guide: Speech and conference — 1,000 to 1,500 people indoors, 2,000 to 3,000 or more outdoors in good conditions. Music and corporate events — 500 to 800 people indoors, 300 to 500 people outdoors. These are starting points rather than hard limits — the EVENT-28A's long-throw line array characteristics mean actual coverage in good outdoor conditions frequently exceeds these figures, particularly for speech. This package is also the correct recommendation for high-profile events of 400 to 500 people where professional line array quality is expected regardless of room size — when the event matters, the system should match it.
Need more system? The EVENT28-3 doubles the top and sub count to four tops and two subs per side for larger audiences and venues. Multiple EVENT28-2 rigs can also be combined for very large sites.
Ideal for: Large conferences and presentations, gala dinners and awards nights, corporate events and product launches, outdoor ceremonies, high-profile events where professional production quality is expected. The most commonly hired line array package at Edwards NZ — the right choice for the majority of professional mid-to-large events.
AT04B lifting towers available as an optional add-on. Mixer not included — hire separately or bring your own. Available for self-collection or delivery and setup.
Frequently Asked Questions — EVENT28-2 Line Array Hire
How many people will this system cover?
The EVENT28-2 comfortably covers 1,000 to 1,500 people indoors for speech and conference use, and 2,000 to 3,000 or more outdoors in good conditions. For music events the practical range is 500 to 800 people indoors. These are guidelines rather than hard limits — two EVENT-28A cabinets per side throw clean, intelligible audio across a large outdoor field with ease, and actual coverage frequently exceeds the figures above, particularly for speech outdoors where throw distance is the constraint rather than output level.
Is this suitable for a high-profile event with a smaller audience?
Yes — and it is often the right recommendation precisely for this reason. A conference of 400 people in a well-appointed venue deserves a system that matches the occasion, not just one that technically covers the room. The EVENT28-2 delivers a quality and consistency of sound that a point-source speaker system cannot match at any audience size, and the professional appearance of the array suits high-profile corporate events where the production quality reflects on the client. When the event matters, the system should match it.
Do I need a mixer?
Yes. The system accepts any balanced XLR feed from a mixing console. If you need a mixer, Edwards can supply a Soundcraft or Allen and Heath digital console alongside this package. For events with multiple wireless microphones, live music inputs, or monitor requirements, the SQ5 or SQ7 is the standard recommendation. Let us know your input requirements when booking and we can quote the right combination.
Can this be used outdoors?
Yes, and outdoor events are one of the strongest use cases for this package. Line array technology handles outdoor conditions including wind significantly better than conventional speakers at equivalent power levels. Two EVENT-28A cabinets per side will throw clear, intelligible audio across a large outdoor field. For events where the system is at ground level and the audience is standing, AT04B lifting towers are available as an add-on to get the array higher for better throw over the crowd.
Does it need to be ground-stacked or can it be flown?
The EVENT28-2 is supplied with pole mount hardware — the standard configuration is the tops pole-mounted on the EVENT-118A subwoofer, giving a clean professional appearance with the sub on the ground and the array at height. The tops can also be stacked directly on the sub where stage height compensates. The system can also be flown from AT04B lifting towers or venue motor points if preferred. Rigging hardware is included and flying points need to be confirmed at booking.
What is the DAScontrol setting and do I need to configure it?
The DAScontrol preset on each EVENT-28A is set to 2U before dispatch — matched to the two tops per side in this configuration. This automatically applies the correct EQ, time alignment, phase alignment, and limiting for a two-cabinet array. You do not need to configure anything on site for a standard deployment. If the number of tops changes for any reason the preset must be updated to match — this is the single most important setup step for the EVENT series and is covered in the setup documentation supplied with the hire.
What is the difference between the EVENT28-2 and EVENT28-1?
The EVENT28-1 has one top and one sub per side — the entry point into the EVENT series, suited to smaller events and presentations stepping up to line array quality. The EVENT28-2 has two tops per side, giving noticeably better vertical dispersion control, more output, and significantly greater throw distance. For most professional mid-size events the EVENT28-2 is the correct starting point.
What is the difference between the EVENT28-2 and EVENT28-3?
The EVENT28-3 has four tops and two subs per side — double the configuration of the EVENT28-2. It is the right step up when the audience exceeds 1,500 people indoors, the venue is significantly larger, or the event demands more acoustic authority. The EVENT28-2 handles the majority of professional corporate and conference events comfortably — the EVENT28-3 is for events at major scale.
Can I add more coverage if the site is larger than expected?
Yes. Multiple EVENT28-2 rigs can be combined for larger sites, or you can step up to the EVENT28-3 or EVENT28-4 packages. For outdoor sites where coverage needs to reach a secondary area — across a road, into a separate marquee, or across a large precinct — horn speaker systems can be added alongside the main array for distributed coverage. Is delivery and setup available?
Yes. The EVENT28-2 is available for self-collection or delivery and professional setup by an Edwards technician. Contact our hire team at (09) 571 0551 or hire@edwardsnz.co.nz to discuss your event.
