Large Corporate and Music Line Array Package

The EVENT28-3 is Edwards NZ's standard large-event line array package — eight DAS Audio EVENT-28A active mid-high cabinets and four EVENT-118A powered 18" subwoofers, four tops and two subs per side. This is the system for major conferences, large gala dinners, outdoor events, and any event where the audience size or throw distance has moved beyond what a point-source system can comfortably deliver.

Four EVENT-28A cabinets per side form a full line array with significantly better throw, vertical dispersion control, and coverage consistency than the smaller packages. The DAScontrol DSP preset is set to 4U which applies the correct EQ, time alignment, and limiting for this configuration. Two EVENT-118A subwoofers per side provide the low-frequency foundation for both speech intelligibility and music reproduction.

The system is ground-stacked as standard — four tops per side is within the safe ground-stack limit for the EVENT-28A. AT04B speaker lifting towers are available as an optional add-on for outdoor events where additional height is needed to clear a large standing audience, or for indoor venues where a flown array is preferred.

No mixer is included. For events with complex input requirements such as live band, multiple wireless microphones, monitor mixes etc the Allen and Heath SQ5 or SQ7 digital console is the standard Edwards recommendation alongside this package.

Coverage guide: Speech and conference — 2,000 to 3,000 people indoors, 5,000 or more outdoors in good conditions. Music and corporate events — 1,000 to 1,500 people indoors, 800 to 1,000 people outdoors. DJ events — 800 to 1,000 people. These are starting points rather than hard limits — actual coverage in good outdoor conditions frequently exceeds these figures, particularly for speech where throw distance is the constraint rather than output level.

Frequently Asked Questions — EVENT28-3 Line Array Hire

How many people will this system cover?

The EVENT28-3 comfortably covers 2,000 to 3,000 people indoors for speech and conference use, and 5,000 or more outdoors in good conditions. For music and DJ events the practical range is 800 to 1,500 people depending on the venue and how hard the system is being driven. These are guidelines rather than hard limits — the EVENT-28A's line array characteristics mean it frequently exceeds these figures, particularly outdoors where the long-throw performance of the array is the primary advantage over conventional speakers.

Do I need a mixer with this package?

Yes, no mixer is included. The system accepts any balanced XLR feed from a mixing console. If you need a mixer, Edwards can supply a Soundcraft Performer or an Allen and Heath SQ5 or SQ7 digital console alongside this package. For events with live band inputs, wireless microphones, and monitor mixes, the SQ7 with a stagebox is the standard recommendation. Let us know your input requirements when booking and we can quote accordingly.

Can this system be used outdoors?

Yes, and outdoor events are one of the strongest use cases for this package. Line array technology handles outdoor conditions — including wind — significantly better than conventional point-source speakers at equivalent power levels. For large outdoor events where the system is at ground level and the audience is standing, we recommend adding AT04B speaker lifting towers to get the array higher for better throw over the crowd. The towers are available as an optional add-on.

Does it need to be ground-stacked or can it be flown?

The EVENT28-3 is supplied ready for ground-stacking — four tops per side is within the safe limit for the EVENT-28A stacking configuration. It can also be flown on AT04B lifting towers or from venue motor points if preferred. All necessary rigging hardware is included in the package. Flying points or motors at the venue need to be confirmed at booking and are not included.

What is the difference between the EVENT28-3 and the EVENT28-2?

The EVENT28-2 has two tops and one sub per side — suitable for audiences up to around 1,500 people indoors and the most commonly hired EVENT package for corporate events. The EVENT28-3 doubles the top count to four per side and adds a second sub per side, giving significantly more output, better vertical dispersion control, and greater throw distance. The EVENT28-3 is the right step up when the audience is larger, the venue is bigger, or the event demands more acoustic authority than the EVENT28-2 can comfortably deliver.

What is the difference between the EVENT28-3 and EVENT28-5?

Both packages have four tops per side, but the EVENT28-5 uses EVENT-218A dual-18" subwoofers instead of the EVENT-118A units in the EVENT28-3. The EVENT-218A produces significantly more bass output and extends to 32Hz, making the EVENT28-5 the right choice when the event is primarily music or DJ and physical bass impact is a priority. For speech-primary events, conferences, and corporate events where the music is secondary or comes after the speeches, the EVENT28-3 with EVENT-118A subs is the more appropriate and cost-effective choice. It is still extremely impressive and capable.

Can I add more speakers or subwoofers to extend coverage?

Yes. Additional tops, subwoofers, and slave speakers can be added depending on the requirements. For very large outdoor sites where coverage needs to reach a secondary area, the other side of a road, a separate marquee, or a distributed zone other speaker systems can be added alongside the main line array. Is delivery and setup available?

Yes. The EVENT28-3 is recommended for delivery and professional setup by an Edwards technician. Given the scale of this system, delivery and setup is strongly recommended for clients without experience operating line array equipment.
