Hire DAS Audio VANTEC-215A Powered Speaker
Dual 15" Active Full-Range Speaker
The DAS Audio VANTEC-215A is the most powerful point-source speaker in the Edwards hire fleet — a dual 15" three-way active cabinet with 2,250W peak Class-D amplification, 138dB peak SPL, and a frequency response extending to 40Hz without a subwoofer. It is the ceiling of the Edwards point-source speaker range — deployed when a single cabinet needs to deliver serious output and the event does not warrant deploying the EVENT series line array. Hire code VANTEC215A.
Two 15" custom woofers in a single cabinet give the VANTEC-215A a bass weight and low-frequency extension that 12" active speakers — including the VANTEC-12A — simply cannot match without a dedicated subwoofer. At 40Hz the cabinet is producing genuine sub-bass content on its own, meaning a pair of VANTEC-215A speakers covers most DJ and live music events without adding separate subwoofers to the setup. The result is a system that is faster to deploy, cleaner in appearance, and entirely adequate for the majority of corporate music events where the client wants real bass without a full production setup.
The three-way active configuration uses a Class-D bi-amplifier driving the dual 15" woofers on the low channel and a 1" compression driver on the high channel, with FIR DSP providing phase-coherent processing across both crossover regions. The DAScontrol LCD interface provides five presets — Live, Dance, Vocals, Bass Boost, and Vocals+Mode — covering the most common event types without requiring manual DSP adjustment. Bluetooth HD streaming connects a phone or laptop wirelessly for background music and playback. An XLR loop-through output allows a subwoofer to be added to the signal chain if the event requires more bass impact beyond what the cabinet delivers on its own.
One important physical note: at approximately 30kg and with the cabinet dimensions of a dual-15" enclosure, the VANTEC-215A is a floor-standing or stage-mounted speaker — it is not for use on standard speaker stands. It sits on the ground or on a stage riser and projects from there.

Coverage guide: A pair covers 300 to 600 people for general events without subwoofers — more for speech in a controlled room, comfortably handles corporate DJ and live music events without dedicated subs. These are starting points rather than hard limits.
Ideal for: Corporate DJ events and live music, product launches and high-energy corporate events, gala dinners where a clean sub-free speaker setup is preferred, any event requiring high-output full-range audio from a compact point-source cabinet. The right choice when the VANTEC-12A needs to step up and the EVENT line array is more system than the event requires.
Available individually or as a pair. Available for self-collection or delivery and setup.
Frequently Asked Questions — DAS Audio VANTEC-215A Hire
Do I need subwoofers with this speaker?
For most applications no — the VANTEC-215A reaches to 40Hz on its own, which covers the full audible bass range including the low frequencies that make music feel physical and present. For corporate DJ events, live bands, and music events where full bass presence is required, a pair of VANTEC-215A speakers typically delivers everything the event needs without separate subs. The point at which adding subwoofers becomes worthwhile is when the event is specifically dance-floor focused, the client wants club-level bass impact at high SPL, or the brief describes a high-energy concert environment where maximum low-frequency output is part of the production requirement. If you are unsure, contact the hire team and we can advise based on your specific event.
Can I add subwoofers later if needed?
Yes. The VANTEC-215A has an XLR loop-through output that allows a subwoofer to be added to the signal chain. The sub receives the full-range signal via the loop-through and handles its own crossover duties, feeding a high-pass filtered signal back to the tops. The VANTEC PA packages — VANTEC6K and VANTEC6K2 — combine the VANTEC-215A with VANTEC-18A subwoofers in pre-configured hire packages if a complete system with subs is the right choice from the outset.
Why can't it go on a speaker stand?
At approximately 30kg and with the physical dimensions of a dual-15" cabinet, the VANTEC-215A is significantly heavier and larger than the typical 12" speaker that standard pole-mount stands are designed for. Standard speaker stands are typically rated for 15 to 20kg — the VANTEC-215A exceeds this. It is designed and intended as a floor-standing or stage-mounted cabinet, projecting from ground level or stage height. For most events this is perfectly adequate — the 90° horizontal dispersion covers a wide audience area from a floor or stage position. If height is needed the speaker can be placed on a solid riser or stage platform.
How does it compare to the VANTEC-12A?
The VANTEC-215A is a significantly larger and more powerful cabinet — 2,250W versus 1,500W peak, 138dB versus 135dB peak SPL, and 40Hz versus the 12" models' higher bass floor. The most meaningful practical difference is the bass extension. The VANTEC-215A produces genuine low-frequency content on its own that the VANTEC-12A requires a separate subwoofer to match. For music events where bass presence matters and a sub-free setup is preferred, the VANTEC-215A is the right step up. For corporate speech events, presentations, and smaller events where the 12" is acoustically appropriate, the VANTEC-12A is the more practical choice.
What events is it best suited to?
The VANTEC-215A is at its best on music events — corporate DJ nights, live bands, product launches with high-energy music content, and gala dinners where the entertainment portion of the evening needs real bass and output without a full production setup. It is also a strong choice as the main PA for events that start corporate with speeches and end with dancing, where a single speaker system needs to handle both well without reconfiguring. For pure speech events and conferences where audio quality and intelligibility are the priority over output, the VANTEC-12A in a well-configured stereo pair is often a better-matched choice.
Can it be used as a monitor or floor wedge?
No — the VANTEC-215A's physical size and weight make it unsuitable as a floor monitor. It is a front-of-house speaker only.
Is delivery and setup available?
Yes. The VANTEC-215A is available individually or as a pair, for self-collection or delivery and setup by an Edwards technician. Contact our hire team at (09) 571 0551 or hire@edwardsnz.co.nz to discuss your requirements.
