The Apex Pro is the most powerful and most capable portable PA system in the Edwards hire fleet — and genuinely one of the best portable PA systems available in New Zealand. Edwards NZ has distributed Chiayo products for over 25 years and the Apex Pro represents the current peak of what the range offers: dual 240 watt Class D amplifiers, a 10" bass driver with 1" compression driver, lithium battery, internal microphone storage, and 4" shock-absorbing wheels. It outperforms systems twice its size and cost.

The headline feature is the dual amplifier design. The built-in speaker runs from one 240 watt amplifier. The second 240 watt amplifier drives the external speaker output independently, with its own volume control. Connect a passive 4 to 8 ohm extension speaker cabinet and you effectively have two independently powered speakers in one unit — 480 watts total output — without any additional amplifier. Add the optional Apex wireless companion speaker and you extend coverage further still with no audio cable required between positions.

The Apex Pro ships from Edwards with the lithium battery as standard. This gives 8 to 10 hours of music playback or over 12 hours for speech-only events on a single charge — enough to cover a full day event without reaching for a mains cable. The lithium battery also keeps the weight down to 15.7kg, significantly lighter than the lead-acid Challenger at 20kg despite delivering more power. The 4" shock-absorbing wheels handle grass, gravel, and uneven terrain that smaller trolley wheels struggle with.

Bluetooth streaming handles music playback from a phone or laptop without cables. USB digital input supports direct audio from a laptop via USB. Two XLR combo inputs accept wired microphones or line sources with individual level control. EQ, reverb, and Voice Priority controls are all present. The built-in MP3 recorder captures directly to USB or SD card for recording ceremonies, speeches, or performances without additional equipment.

The internal microphone storage bay holds up to four handheld wireless microphones, or two handhelds and two beltpack transmitters, along with a switching power supply. Everything stays together in the unit — no separate bag for the microphones, no loose accessories to leave behind.

Up to four modular UHF wireless microphone receivers can be fitted, with two installed as standard. The hire package includes two handheld wireless microphones. Either or both can be swapped for lapel or headset microphones at no additional charge, and the styles can be mixed. Additional microphones can be added for a small fee up to the four-receiver limit.

The Voice Priority function automatically reduces music volume when a microphone is active. Switch it off for performances where a singer needs music to continue at full level while the microphone is open.

Covers up to 300 to 400 people for speech events, with the second amplifier output and optional extension speaker significantly increasing coverage capacity.

Need to cover a larger area? The APEX-2 package adds a wireless companion speaker linked by RF signal with no audio cable required, extending coverage to a second position up to 80 metres away. Additional slave speakers can be chained using the repeater system for large multi-zone sites. The wired external speaker output also accepts passive horn speakers or additional cabinets directly from the Apex's second amplifier.

Need more microphones? The Apex Pro accepts up to four wireless receivers simultaneously. Additional handheld, lapel, or headset microphones can be added at a small additional charge.
