The APEX-2 is the most capable portable PA hire package Edwards offers — the Apex Pro master unit paired with a wireless companion speaker, giving you two battery-powered speakers with no audio cable between them and no mains power required at either position. Place them wherever the coverage is needed, up to 80 metres apart, and the RF wireless link handles the audio distribution automatically.

The Apex Pro master unit runs dual 240 watt Class D amplifiers — one driving the built-in 10" two-way speaker, the second driving the external speaker output independently with its own volume control. In the APEX-2 configuration the wireless companion speaker receives the audio signal from the master unit and amplifies it with its own internal amplifier. This gives you three independent audio outputs from a single hire package: the built-in Apex speaker, the wireless slave speaker, and the wired external speaker output on the Apex which can accept a passive 4 to 8 ohm cabinet — horn speakers in a field, a monitor wedge, or any additional passive speaker — without any additional amplifier.

The Apex Pro ships with the lithium battery as standard, giving 8 to 10 hours of music playback or over 12 hours for speech-only events. At 15.7kg with 4" shock-absorbing wheels it handles grass, gravel, and uneven outdoor terrain that smaller trolley systems struggle with. The wireless companion speaker also runs on its own internal battery, making the entire two-speaker system genuinely cable-free and mains-free for the duration of most events.

Bluetooth streaming handles music from a phone or laptop. USB digital input connects a laptop directly. Two XLR combo inputs accept wired microphones or line sources. The built-in MP3 recorder captures to USB or SD card. Internal storage holds up to four wireless microphone handhelds or a mix of handhelds and beltpacks, keeping the full kit self-contained within the unit.

One important operating note: the wireless repeater module must be powered on manually after the master unit is switched on. Press and hold the repeater button for two seconds until it activates — this is the most commonly missed setup step on site and the first thing to check if the companion speaker has no audio. A 20 metre XLR cable is included in the kit as a backup connection if needed.

Up to four modular UHF wireless microphone receivers can be fitted, with two installed as standard. The hire includes two handheld wireless microphones. Either or both can be swapped for lapel or headset microphones at no additional charge, and the styles can be mixed. Additional microphones can be added for a small fee up to the four-receiver limit.

Need to cover an even larger area? Additional slave speakers and repeater modules can be chained beyond the included companion speaker, with each relay point adding another 50 to 80 metres of range. The wired external speaker output on the Apex master unit also accepts passive horn speakers or additional cabinets without any extra amplification.
