Hire LM7X30W RGBW Zoom Wash Moving Head
Seven x 30W Colour Wash with Motorised Zoom
The LM7X30W is a compact RGBW moving wash head with seven 30W four-in-one LED cells, motorised zoom from 6 to 60 degrees, and full pan and tilt movement on DMX. It comes in a white housing rather than the standard black, so it looks noticeably different on a rig and can become a visual feature of the setup rather than something that disappears into the ceiling. Hire code LM7X30W.
This is intelligent lighting — a moving head that can pan, tilt, change colour, and zoom on command from a controller or automatically in response to music. It is not a set-and-forget fixture. Getting the best out of it requires some thought about placement, some basic DMX setup, and a controller that can address it properly. That said, it is one of the more approachable moving heads in the fleet, and its built-in auto programs and sound-active mode mean it can produce an impressive show with minimal programming for events where a full lighting design is not practical.
The seven RGBW cells mix red, green, blue, and white across a wide colour gamut. The motorised zoom from 6 degrees tight to 60 degrees wide gives the fixture real flexibility: at 6 degrees it produces a concentrated beam with visible throw and direction; at 60 degrees it becomes a broad colour wash covering a wide area from a single fixture. Between those extremes there is a full range of useful intermediate positions. The combination of colour mixing and zoom on a moving head is what separates a wash moving head from a simple PAR can uplight.

A Note on Placement
Moving heads reward good placement more than almost any other fixture type. A wash moving head on a stand at floor level pointed at the ceiling produces a very different result from the same fixture overhead on a truss or totem looking down at the stage and audience. Neither is wrong, but the choice changes what the fixture can do for the event.
From an overhead position on a truss or lighting totem, the LM7X30W washes colour down across the stage, the dance floor, or the audience area. The movement is visible as the fixture tracks across the space. This is the most common configuration for DJ events, dance floors, and corporate stage colour washes where the lighting is part of the atmosphere.
From a floor or stand position pointed upward or at a surface, the fixture creates uplighting effects, gobo-like beam projections, or wall wash colour. This works well for venue theming and decorative colour at events where the fixture is part of the room's visual design rather than a stage lighting tool.
The LM7X30W pairs well with the HAVOCW19 larger wash heads on the same rig, with the LM7X30W filling closer positions and the HAVOCW19 covering greater throw distances. For a fully coordinated show, the MAESTRO AI lighting controller or the QuickQ20 (QUICKQ20) desk can program scenes, chases, and colour sequences across both fixture types simultaneously.
What It's Used For
DJ events and dance floors. Sound-active mode locks the colour changes and movement to the beat of the music automatically, without any controller operation required beyond turning the fixture on and selecting the mode. For a DJ night or a dance floor event where the brief is to make the room feel like a venue and the operator cannot dedicate attention to a lighting desk throughout the night, sound-active mode on two or four of these fixtures does a lot of work on its own.
Corporate gala dinners and awards nights. Moving colour wash on the stage and room during the event segments that benefit from visual energy, then settled to a static brand colour wash for speeches and presentations. The white housing suits polished corporate environments where black lighting equipment can look industrial against dressed tables and decor.
Stage colour wash alongside key lighting. The LM7X30W is a colour and movement fixture, not a key light. It works alongside fresnels, not instead of them. A typical corporate or entertainment stage rig uses fresnels (FRESWW3 or FRESF96) for the clean white key lighting on the presenter or performer, with two or four LM7X30W units adding colour, movement, and atmosphere to the stage picture around that key light.
Product launches and brand activations. Set a specific brand colour in RGBW, focus the zoom to the required spread, and point the fixtures at the stage or the feature wall. The white housing is clean and unobtrusive in a polished event environment. For a more dynamic show during the reveal moment, switching from static colour to a moving chase or audio-reactive mode creates a clear transition between the build and the reveal.
Venue and event theming. Two or four units pointed at walls, drapes, or architectural features wash the room in colour and add depth to a venue that would otherwise feel flat. Combined with PARBATT battery uplights for the room perimeter and a PIXBAR12H for the stage backdrop, a complete colour-washed room picture is achievable with a small number of fixtures.
DJ setups and nightlife events. The combination of seven LEDs, 60 degree maximum zoom, sound-active mode, and motorised movement gives a single LM7X30W more visual impact per fixture than a static wash or PAR can. For a compact mobile DJ setup where carry weight matters, two of these fixtures plus a Wolfmix W1 MK2 controller covers the visual requirements of most small-to-medium venue DJ engagements.
Control Options
DMX with QuickQ20 (QUICKQ20). Full programmed control of all parameters including individual zoom, colour, and movement scenes per fixture. The right approach for events where the lighting needs to be designed and repeatable across multiple segments.
DMX with Wolfmix W1 MK2 (WOLFMIX). Beat-synced, touchscreen-controlled, with built-in patterns and effects that work well with RGBW wash heads. The Wolfmix is faster to set up and more intuitive for DJ-style events than a conventional lighting desk.
Maestro AI lighting controller. For clients who want a more sophisticated automated show without the complexity of a full programming session, the Maestro's AI-assisted control generates dynamic lighting looks from the connected fixtures. It pairs well with the LM7X30W for events where the lighting should feel polished but the operator is not a dedicated lighting technician.
Sound-active and auto modes. With no controller at all, the fixture's built-in programs respond to music via a built-in microphone or to a DMX trigger. This is the entry-level option for simple events, parties, and situations where a controller is not practical. The results are less precise than a programmed show but entirely adequate for casual events.
Truss totems. The LM7X30W can be mounted on the Edwards truss totem stands, which place the fixture at an elevated position above the stage or dance floor without requiring a full truss structure. This is the most practical way to get these fixtures into an overhead wash position for events in venues where nothing can be hung from the ceiling. Ask about totem availability when booking.
Frequently Asked Questions — LM7X30W Hire
Is this fixture suitable for someone without lighting experience?
With care, yes. The built-in sound-active and auto programs mean it can produce a good result without any DMX programming knowledge. The important consideration is placement: a moving head pointed in the wrong direction or at an awkward angle will not look good regardless of what the fixture itself is doing. If there is no one on the hire who is confident with moving head placement and setup, the Edwards team can advise at the time of booking, or delivery and setup by an Edwards technician can be arranged.
Why does it come in white?
The white housing is simply how this particular model is supplied. It makes the fixtures visually distinctive on a rig and suits events where the lighting equipment is visible to guests and a clean, contemporary look is preferred over the industrial appearance of standard black fixtures. On a corporate stage, a gala dinner, or a product launch where the rig is part of the room's visual design, the white housing is often an advantage.
How many do I need?
For a DJ dance floor or a small stage colour wash, two units provide a good starting point and cover a reasonable area between them at wide zoom. Four units give more even coverage across a wider space and allow more interesting movement and colour patterns when they are programmed as a group. For large venues or wide stages, six or more may be appropriate. The Edwards hire team can advise based on the venue dimensions and the event type.
Can I combine these with other moving heads from the Edwards fleet?
Yes. The LM7X30W works well alongside the HAVOCW19 larger wash heads, with the HAVOCW19 covering greater distances and producing more output, while the LM7X30W fills closer positions and adds density to the rig. The HAVOCH200 and HAVOCH600 profile moving heads can be added for beam effects, gobos, and specials alongside the wash heads. A QuickQ20 desk or Wolfmix controller handles mixed fixture types on the same rig.
Can the movement range be restricted?
Yes. Pan and tilt limit modes are available on the fixture, allowing the movement range to be restricted so the fixture does not sweep into areas where movement is unwanted, such as into the audience's eyes or off the side of a stage. This is worth setting up at the time of installation when the fixture positions are known.
Is delivery and setup available?
Yes. Contact the hire team at hire@edwardsnz.co.nz or (09) 571 0551 to discuss delivery, installation, and operation support for your event.
