The Good Home Bar – Sound, Video & Control System Installation by Edwards
As part of a complete renovation, The Good Home Bar took the opportunity to install a cutting-edge, flexible sound and video system with a simple and intuitive control interface. The AV system was designed to support a variety of functions—background music, quiz nights, private functions, live bands, and live sports—tailored for each distinct area of the venue with just the touch of a button.
Located on Normanby Road in Mt Eden, The Good Home Bar occupies the former site of the Speight’s Alehouse. With a fresh new look inspired by the Danish concept of hygge—meaning “cosiness”—the bar aims to be a welcoming space that feels like a “home away from home.” Whether guests are dining, enjoying a drink, or celebrating a special occasion, the environment is designed to feel comfortable and uplifting.
Choosing Edwards Sound
The team behind The Good Home, who also operate successful venues like The Patriot in Devonport, knew that audio-visual performance would be crucial in delivering the right vibe.
“We got six or seven quotes,” recalls co-owner Stephen Brogan, “but Edwards were clearly the most professional and also best on price. When Dave from Edwards visited, he didn’t just wander around—he asked the right questions, measured things properly, and clearly understood the brief.”
Audio-Video Design
Edwards proposed a high-quality yet cost-effective AV solution that ticked every box. The system features:
DAS Audio Artec 500 series for superior indoor sound
DAS Arco 24T speakers for two outdoor function decks
Audiocenter amplifiers for reliable, powerful performance
BSS BLU-100 DSP for zone control
Large screen TVs, projector, and HDMI matrix for flexible video distribution
This setup allows bar staff to easily select and route different video and audio sources to various parts of the venue—whether that’s a Sky Sports broadcast, DJ mix, microphone for quiz night, or HDMI connection for a presentation.
Effortless Control
Even with all the power behind the scenes, the system was designed to be user-friendly for staff. Edwards avoided flashy touchscreen panels that might clash with the pub’s heritage aesthetic. Instead, a wall-mounted rotary source selector and volume control behind the bar makes it simple to operate.
“It’s so easy that even my brother can use it,” laughs Stephen. “Which means it’s awesome!”
The control system includes five inputs—Sky Box 1 and 2, music player, microphone, and HDMI—plus a few handy preset modes, such as “Dining,” “Quiz Night,” and “Private Function.” Staff can also make manual adjustments on the fly with no training required.
Installation Done Right
Because the AV work was part of a larger renovation, coordination was key. Edwards worked closely with the architect’s plans, aligning each stage of the install with the construction timeline—cabling during open-wall periods, mounting speaker brackets, fitting rack equipment, and bracing for TV installs all happened at just the right time.
“Edwards were professional from the start,” says Stephen. “The install was smooth, and Dave and Shane worked in really well with the team.” Post-sales support was just as good. “One time I called them, and someone was here within the hour. It turned out the issue was on our end, but they still fixed it!”
Future-Proofed for Fun
The system strikes the perfect balance between ease of use and performance. Whether it’s a laid-back afternoon, a high-energy Christmas party, or a packed quiz night, The Good Home’s AV setup is ready to deliver. A DAS Vantec 18A subwoofer is also being added to ensure deep, punchy bass when things really get going.
