Hire Two-Fresnel Warm White Stage Lighting Package

The STAGEW1200 is the simplest complete stage lighting package Edwards offers and the right starting point for any event that needs a properly lit stage without complexity. Two F300WWMZ 300W warm white LED fresnels on stands, a basic 6-channel DMX controller, and all the power and DMX cabling to connect them. Everything needed to illuminate a presenter, a panel, or a performance area is in one hire package. Hire code STAGEW1200.

The two fresnels are the same F300WWMZ fixtures available individually as HFRESWW3 300W warm white LED at 3,200K, over 14,000 lux output at 2.5 metres at their tightest zoom, and an 8,000Hz PWM frequency that makes them the most broadcast-safe LED fresnels in the Edwards fleet. They produce more light than a 1,200W halogen fresnel each, so the name STAGEW1200 reflects that heritage; the output is in the same class as the old incandescent standard but the power consumption is a quarter of it and there are no fragile lamps, no dimmer packs, and no heat hazard.

The included DMX6 controller is a compact, straightforward 6-channel DMX desk with one fader per channel. There is no programming, no scenes, no moving head support, and no complexity. Each fader controls one DMX channel, and the two fresnels occupy two of those channels. For most events using this package the operator brings the faders up before the session starts and brings them down at the end. That is the entire operation. For events where the Soundcraft Performer 2 mixer (MX32D) is already on the hire, the Performer 2's built-in 5-pin DMX output handles the same job and the DMX6 controller can be left out of the setup entirely, reducing the number of things to connect and manage.

What It's Used For

Corporate presentations and conferences. Two fresnels on stands, one from each side of the stage at 45 degrees, give a presenter clean and even illumination that looks professional in the room and reads well on any camera present. The warm 3,200K character flatters most skin tones and suits the hotel ballrooms, function centres, and conference venues where most corporate events take place. Setup is straightforward enough for a venue technician or event coordinator to manage without a lighting specialist on site.

School productions and prize-givings. A school hall stage lit with two FRESWW3 units is dramatically better than the venue's house lighting alone. The output is more than adequate for a school stage; the warm tone suits the celebratory atmosphere of prize-givings and performances; and the package includes everything needed without requiring any additional equipment to be sourced separately.

Panel discussions and awards presentations. Where a stage has a fixed set of positions — a panel table, a lectern, an award handover spot — two fresnels covering the stage from either side give consistent illumination across all positions. Unlike a single front wash, the two-light approach from each side reduces the shadow that a single source creates on the side of the presenter's face away from the light, and the result is more even and more professional than a single fixture can achieve.

Church and community events. The warm output of 3,200K suits the atmosphere of most community and church spaces, and the package provides enough light to make a speaker or performer clearly visible from the back of a standard hall. The simple controller means a volunteer operator can manage the lighting confidently without training on a complex desk.

Weddings and celebrations. For a ceremony or function where the stage or focal area needs to be lit simply and warmly, the STAGEW1200 provides a complete solution. The warm white at 3,200K creates a rich and flattering light that photographs well and complements the candles, floral arrangements, and ambient decor of a celebration venue.

As a foundation for a larger rig. The STAGEW1200 is the core of many larger lighting packages. Additional fresnels, moving heads, uplights, or effects can be added alongside this package for events that need more. The DMX6 controller handles up to six channels, so up to four additional single-channel fixtures can be added before a more capable desk is needed. For events that grow beyond six channels, the QuickQ20 (QUICKQ20) is the natural step up.

Setting It Up

The package is designed to be straightforward to deploy without specialist knowledge. The two fresnels go on their stands, one to the left of the stage and one to the right, positioned in front of the stage and angled at approximately 45 degrees downward toward the presenter or performance area. The DMX6 controller sits at the operator position and connects to the first fresnel via the included DMX cable; the second fresnel daisy-chains from the first via a second DMX cable. Each fresnel connects to mains power via its PowerCON cable. Bring the faders up and the stage is lit.

The ideal stand height places the fresnel above the sightline of the audience, angled down at roughly 45 degrees. For a standard stage with a 1 to 1.5 metre platform height, the stands extended to around 2 to 2.5 metres above floor level and positioned 2 to 3 metres in front of the stage face give a good starting point. The zoom can be adjusted on each fixture to widen or tighten the coverage to suit the specific stage width and the distance from stand to stage.

If the Performer 2 mixer is on the hire, connect the Performer 2's DMX output directly to the first fresnel and use two of the Performer 2's channel faders to control the two lights. This removes the need to set up the DMX6 controller separately and keeps all control at the mix position.

Frequently Asked Questions — STAGEW1200 Hire

Why is it called STAGEW1200 if the fresnels are 300W LED?

The name reflects the output equivalence. Each F300WWMZ 300W LED fresnel produces light comparable to a 1,200W halogen fresnel, which was the standard high-output fresnel fixture in traditional stage lighting. The package gives you the output of two 1,200W halogen fresnels at a fraction of the power consumption, without the heat, the fragile lamps, or the dimmer packs that incandescent fixtures require. The legacy naming makes it easy for technicians familiar with traditional theatre lighting to understand the package's capability.

Can I control both fresnels from one fader?

Yes. Set both fresnels to the same DMX address and connect them in the same DMX chain; they will then respond identically to a single fader. Alternatively, set them to different addresses and use one fader per fixture, which allows the two sides to be balanced independently if one position needs more or less light than the other. The second approach gives more control and is generally preferred for professional setups.

Do the fresnels change colour?

No. The F300WWMZ is a fixed 3,200K warm white fixture; it does not change colour temperature and does not have RGB or variable white capability. For variable colour temperature, the FRESF96 (hire code FRESF96) and FRESF200 (hire code FRESF200) are the appropriate alternatives. For colour effects on a backdrop or set, PARBATT uplights or the PIXBAR12H pixel bar can be added alongside this package.

Is it suitable for a live stream or video recording?

Yes, with one consideration. The 8,000Hz PWM makes these fresnels the safest LED fixtures in the Edwards fleet for camera use; flicker is not a concern. The consideration is colour temperature: the fresnels are fixed at 3,200K, which is correct for cameras set to tungsten white balance. If the camera operator is shooting on daylight white balance (5,600K), the fresnels will appear orange on camera without a colour correction gel. Confirm the camera's intended white balance before the event. If colour temperature flexibility is important, ask about upgrading to FRESF96 or FRESF200 units instead.

Can I add more lights to this package?

Yes. The DMX6 controller has 6 channels, so up to four additional single-channel fixtures can be connected alongside the two fresnels before the controller runs out of capacity. Common additions include a third fresnel for a centre fill, PARBATT uplights for background colour, or a PIXBAR12H for a cyc or backdrop wash. For events that need more than six DMX channels, or moving heads and more complex effects, the QuickQ20 (QUICKQ20) lighting desk can be substituted for the DMX6 controller.

What if I already have the Performer 2 mixer on my hire?

The Soundcraft Performer 2 (MX32D) has a built-in 5-pin DMX512 output that can control up to 22 DMX addresses directly from the mixer's faders. If MX32D is already on the hire, the DMX6 controller in the STAGEW1200 package is not needed; connect the Performer 2's DMX output directly to the first fresnel and use two of the channel faders for the lights. This simplifies the setup significantly and keeps all control at the mix position. Let the hire team know at the time of booking and the DMX6 can be left off the order.

Is delivery and setup available?

Yes. The STAGEW1200 is available for self-collection or delivery and setup by an Edwards technician. The package is designed to be manageable for a self-collect hire; everything is included and the setup procedure is straightforward. For events where the lighting positioning and focusing needs to be right first time, or where there is no one on site comfortable with the setup, delivery and installation by the Edwards team is available. Contact the hire team at hire@edwardsnz.co.nz or (09) 571 0551 to discuss your event.
