Hire DAS Audio EVENT-218A Powered Subwoofer

Dual 18" Active Subwoofer

The DAS Audio EVENT-218A is the most powerful subwoofer in the Edwards hire fleet — a dual 18" powered subwoofer with 3,600W peak Class D amplifier, long-excursion neodymium drivers, and bass extension to 32Hz. It is the subwoofer used in the Edwards EVENT28-5 through EVENT28-9 line array packages and in the CONVERT8K2 high-performance PA system. Available for individual hire when you need to add serious bass to an existing system or build a custom configuration. Hire code EVENT218A.

The EVENT-218A is built around two DAS 18" long-excursion neodymium drivers in a birch plywood cabinet — the same cabinet construction and driver specification used across the DAS Audio touring and installation range. Long-excursion neodymium drivers move more air than conventional drivers at the same cabinet size, producing the physical bass impact and low-frequency extension that large music events and DJ productions demand. At 140dB peak SPL and 3,600W peak amplifier output, a single EVENT-218A cabinet produces more bass than most point-source PA systems manage with two or three conventional subwoofers.

Signal flow is the same as all DAS Audio systems — mixer output into the EVENT-218A XLR input, HPF loop-through output from the sub to the full-range tops. The sub handles all crossover duties, feeding the tops a high-pass filtered signal above the crossover point. The crossover frequency is adjustable on the rear panel. Power can be daisy-chained between EVENT-218A units and to connected tops via the PowerCON AC output, reducing the number of independent mains feeds required.

One critical operational rule that applies to every deployment without exception: the EVENT-218A is never flown. It is always on the ground. It is not designed, rated, or rigged for suspension — ground placement only, always.

Frequently Asked Questions — DAS Audio EVENT-218A Subwoofer Hire

What systems does the EVENT-218A work with?

The EVENT-218A integrates with any DAS Audio system in the Edwards fleet that uses the HPF loop-through signal flow — the EVENT-28A line array tops, the Convert 15A, and any other full-range top that accepts a line-level XLR input. It also works as a standalone subwoofer with any full-range active speaker fed via its loop-through output. The HPF filter on the loop-through removes bass content below the crossover point before it reaches the tops, protecting full-range drivers from low-frequency content they are not optimised to handle.

How does it differ from the EVENT-118A?

The EVENT-118A is a single 18" subwoofer at 2,000W peak, 134dB SPL, and 35Hz extension — the subwoofer used in the smaller EVENT series packages for corporate events and conferences. The EVENT-218A is a dual 18" subwoofer at 3,600W peak, 140dB SPL, and 32Hz extension — 80% more amplifier power, 6dB more peak SPL, and deeper bass extension. In practical terms the EVENT-218A produces significantly more bass output and physical impact, and is the correct choice when the event is music-primary and the audience expects serious bass. For speech events and corporate work the EVENT-118A is more than adequate and more cost-effective.

Can I hire just one or do I need a pair?

A single unit can be hired — it accepts a mono or stereo feed from a mixer and outputs a single HPF-filtered signal to the tops on that side. For a stereo PA system you would typically hire two units — one per side — to maintain left/right separation. A single unit deployed centrally is also a valid configuration for certain applications such as stage monitoring or fill systems.

How heavy is it and what does that mean practically?

The EVENT-218A weighs 68.5kg per unit — a two-person minimum lift at all times, without exception. A wheel dolly or pallet jack is strongly recommended for positioning across any distance. Before booking self-collect for this unit confirm you have adequate crew and appropriate equipment handling capability. Delivery and setup by an Edwards technician removes this concern.

Can it be flown or suspended?

No — never. The EVENT-218A is not rated, designed, or rigged for suspension in any configuration. It is always used on the ground. This is a hard rule with no exceptions regardless of the deployment scenario.

How many can be daisy-chained together?

Multiple EVENT-218A units can be daisy-chained for signal and power. For signal, the loop-through output of one sub feeds the input of the next in the chain, with only the final sub's loop-through feeding the tops with an HPF-filtered signal. For power, the PowerCON AC output daisy-chains mains power to the next cabinet in the chain, reducing the number of independent mains feeds required. The DAS Audio EVENT series packages use up to five per side in the EVENT28-9 configuration — the daisy-chain approach handles this cleanly.

Is delivery and setup available?

Yes. The EVENT-218A is available for self-collection or delivery and setup by an Edwards technician. Contact our hire team at (09) 571 0551 or hire@edwardsnz.co.nz to discuss your requirements.
